Have you ever asked yourself these questions?
- What are my goals in life?
- Do all of these goals match how God wants me to spend my life?
- How do I live a completely humble and abandoned life to God?
- How do I continue to learn and grow in this walk with God?
In addition to praying and reading the Bible, I also need quiet time for God to speak to me. With appropriate prayers, a meditation on my devotions, and Scripture reading, allow God to answer the question: “How should these truths mold my inner spiritual attitudes and guide my living life goals?” Some key Scriptures that have been and continue to be directions for my living a God-pleasing life are listed below.
God the Father reveals His key goal in John 3:16 (NKJV): “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane just before his betrayal and arrest. Matthew 26:38, 39 NKJV: “Then He said to them, ‘My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.’ He went a little farther and fell on His face and prayed, saying, ‘O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.’” Jesus’ focus was on God the Father’s will for His life.
Earlier in the day, just before going to Gethsemane, Jesus predicted His betrayal and taught several key truths recorded for us in the Gospel of John. He ended these teachings with a prayer for all future believers. “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me, and the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one; I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O, righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” (John 17:20-26 NKJV)
Jesus is not only our Lord and Savior, but also our example of a life well lived pleasing God (Matthew 3:13-17). Therefore, we must continue to read Scripture with meditation and pray daily for God to speak to us and reveal the details needed to live a God-pleasing life.
The Apostolic Prayer of Paul to the Philippians is also my prayer for all who read this blog. “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11 NKJV)
