Listening to Dr. Charles Stanley’s daily devotionals this past spring, has reminded me of my late daughter’s powerful testimony during her last few months of life here on earth. Last week we looked at how to have peace in hard times.
The second series of devotionals made me think about my dark times during Ronna’s sickness and death. We prayed for her healing, and still she was being called home to heaven and at such a young age. Why, why? Can this be your plan for her life, Lord?
Walking with God through Dark Times

Walking through dark times, not walking in darkness.
For he (God) has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves (Jesus), in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-15, NIV
- God is with us in our dark times.
- God has a purpose for allowing these dark times in our lives.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28, NIV
- The darkness will last as long as is necessary for God to accomplish His purpose
- Our surrender to His will equips us for ministry to others.
- We learn more in the dark then in the light.
- Relate to others in similar circumstances.
- Even in the dark times we are walking towards the light.
- The best is yet to come. This includes living out God’s will for us and looking forward to eternity with Jesus.
- What we learn in the darkness we are to share in the light.
- A testimony equipping us for leading others to Christ.
Faith In Action
Ronna had a peace and joy in those last days of her life. She knew God was with her. Her Celebration of Life allowed her to say goodbye to her friends and relatives. She was able to get her affairs in order and have a last Christmas holiday season with her immediate family. She knew heaven would be her future home.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:3-4, NIV
The memory of her using crutches to stand with a smile and bald head saying “I get to see Jesus first” is and always will be a faith strengthening memory for me. Thank you Lord for blessing us with Ronna being a part of our family and the time we had with her.
