Last Sunday the Minister to Senior Adults visited our second-grade Sunday school class. She is so good at loving other people, caring for them, and sharing Jesus at every opportunity. I was thrilled the kids in my class could get to know her a little better.
One of the things she shared really resonated with several of my kids. She said the word “joy” helps us remember what order to love.
J-Jesus
O-Others
Y-You
We are to love Jesus, others, and ourselves, but in that order. Jesus always comes first. Then we love others, putting their needs above our own. Finally, we also need to love ourselves. God made each of us wonderful and unique. God loves us and we should too (keeping the right order in mind).
“Teacher,” he asked, “which is the most important commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.’ (Deuteronomy 6:5) This is the first and most important commandment. And the second is like it. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ (Leviticus 19:18) Everything that is written in the Law and the Prophets is based on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:36-40 (NIRV)
Thanks again to our Minister to Senior Adults. We were so blessed to have you visit this week.
