What are the top movies, albums, and TV shows for the end of April/beginning of May? Are things changing as fast as we think?
I’m noticing several familiar titles in the top lists this week. I’m struck by the seeming timelessness of The Avengers, the Fast and Furious series, The Age of Adeline, and TV favorites. I think about the long fascination of America with super heroes, mystery, adventure, and scandalous things. It reminds me of the platitude, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.” There may be some truth in that. The Beatles did not come up with it first.
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” Ecclesiastes 1:1 (KJV; read the whole passage in more modern language here)
We know that God always has been and always will be. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Malachi 3:6). We also know that humanity is sinful. It always has been and will be until the final judgment (Romans 3:23; Revelation 20:11-21:5). Aren’t we thankful that Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins? That too is a fact that will not change, no matter how much time passes (Hebrews 13:8). Praise the Lord!
