Has your life lost the joy and focus it once had?
Revelation opens with reminders of God’s greatness along with specific words to seven early churches. The church at Ephesus was commended for their dedication and commitment to following God’s commands and living right, no matter what.
“But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent” (Revelation 2:4-5 NASB).
This church looked like the model church, but its heart was no longer in it for the right reasons. The people there had forgotten their original passion for the Lord.
I sometimes need reminders like this to stop and think about how wonderful God is, to renew my love and passion for serving Him. Could the same be said for you? God is so much greater than we could ever imagine. He made us, loves us, and even died on a cross so we could live in right relationship with Him. God’s love never ends.
Even as we remember loved ones this Valentine’s Day, let’s take steps to strengthen our relationship with God who embodies love itself (1 John 4:8). Will you join me in a re-commitment to studying God’s love letter (the Bible) and worshiping Him?
“Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker” (Psalm 95:6 NIV).
