How to Conquer Fear

fearAs I write this, I am very close to finishing the final edit for The Answer Book. What surprises me is how reluctant I’ve been to finish and send it back to the publisher. I’ve always been nervous doing things in front of large groups. I guess this is similar.

At the age of seventeen, I led the closing program of Vacation Bible School. The anticipation killed me. I prayed like Jesus, “Lord, please remove this cup from me.” I tried to mean the second part: “Yet not my will, but Yours be done.” When I stood up for my part, an unexplainable peace fell over me. It was almost like Someone Else took over. (That would be the Holy Spirit.)

As soon as it finished, I walked directly to the quiet hallway and sat down shaking. What had I just done in front of all those people? God seemed to say in my spirit, “This is what I want you to do.” I was incredulous, remembering my fear. But in the midst of it all, God had given me His strength and a peace I could not understand. I told Him I would only do stuff like that if He was with me. God promised in His Word that He will.

God has proved faithful to always be with me. He’s always given me the strength I need to do His work and His will.

I know this publication and ministry will be no different.

Are you facing uncertainty in your life? God’s promise holds for you, too. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV). Turn it over to God, trust Him, and press on. Let’s do it together.

How is God working in your life? How can we pray for you? Share your story below.
